Make a difference in
the life of climber!

There’s no substitute for a great mentor in the
life of a student. Will that mentor be YOU?

Please read all requirements below
before applying to become a coach.

To become a Coach in the ASCL you must be:

An Adult

Only individuals 18 years old or older are eligible to become a coach in the ASCL

Background Checked

Working with kids requires due diligence to ensure they are being coached by trusted adults. Each applicant must, at their own expense, supply the ASCL with a recent criminal background check. Background checks dated early than May of the year the season begins will not be accepted as “recent”. Background checks are an annual requirement for coaches.

First Aid/CPR Certified

A valid First Aid and CPR certification is required to work with climbers to ensure adequate care is provided in the case of an emergency. First Aid and CPR certifications that expire during the season must be renewed for a coach to continue in their official capacity with the ASCL. Certifications will be completed at the expense of the coach.

Knowledgeable of Safe Climbing Practices

Once approved, coaches will be required to complete training in their online account on minimum safety standards prior to gaining official capacity with the ASCL.

Knowledgeable of the ASCL Rules & Code of Conduct

Our rules have been developed to ensure safe and fair competitions. Coaches are required to learn and apply the  Rules & Code of Conduct of the ASCL.

In Agreement with the Philosophy & Mission of the ASCL

We want coaches who share our Philosophy & Mission. Make sure to read this over prior to applying to ensure you understand and will apply these foundational principles of the ASCL.

In Agreement with the ASCL Coach Job Description

Coaches are unpaid volunteers in the ASCL. Please read over the  Coach Job Description to know the expectations for ASCL coaches.

In Addition:

Coaches must have all coaching account requirements completed by the due date each season, which will typically be on or around October 15th. (2 weeks prior to the start of the ASCL season).

New coaches added to the system after the due date must have all requirements completed within 7 days of account creation. Non-compliant accounts will be deleted from the system and non-compliant coaches will not be allowed to participate in ASCL events in any official capacity.

No new coaches will be accepted after the Regular Season schedule for a region has concluded. In other words, no new coaches will be accepted for the Regional or State competitions.
