EIGIBILITY FOR COACHING
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must pass the mandatory background check
• Must be able to demonstrate basic top rope and lead belaying and climbing movement. Can top rope climb with confidence a 5.8 or higher. Can lead climb with confidence a 5.7 or higher.
• Can demonstrate proper application of a climbing harness; basic knots used for safe indoor climbing; proper top rope and lead belaying technique; proper use of belay devices; proper use of climber/belayer communication; climbing movement.
• Can recognize, correct or, ideally, prevent human error in equipment usage; belaying and climbing technique.
• Can demonstrate proper equipment care.
• Holds a valid CPR and First Aid Certificate.

COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
• Volunteer of the ASCL
• Knowledge of operation and philosophies of the ASCL.
• Ability to organize and supervise a youth climbing team associated with a school.
• Substantial knowledge and experience in climbing related skills and industry standards. Familiarity with new theories and procedures pertinent to climbing related field experiences.
• Valid training in CPR, First Aid
• Passes the required background check

REPORTS TO:
• The Regional Director who provides overall objectives and evaluation of the League.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:
• Advise, coordinate and support student-athletes and their parents.

JOB GOAL:
• Provide overall leadership and coordination among various events. Facilitate a program that provides worthwhile learning experiences for the promotion of self-esteem in young adults.
• Instruct staff in the fundamental skills necessary to safely enjoy the sport of climbing. Reinforce behaviors reflecting integrity, self-confidence, mutual support, acceptable social behavior and self-discipline in members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coaches will role model the highest form of integrity by following the Official Rules, Guidelines, Philosophy and Mission of the ASCL. This includes confirming if athletes are registered with their school of enrollment; have an ASCL member witness their climbing attempts; and demonstrating positive sportsmanlike conduct at all ASCL events.
• Have a thorough knowledge of all activity policies approved by the League’s administrative team.
• Apply the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught to student-athletes..
• Facilitate and participate in staff evaluations
• Provide staff with documentation to fulfill insurance requirements concerning parent consent, emergency information, risk management, and permission forms.
• Facilitate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical emergencies and accident response plan.
• Facilitate accountability for all fees and scholarships.
• Act as liaison.
• Communicate and connect with athletes, schools, parents and hosting gyms.
• Maintain tradition, mission statement and quality of program.
