Additional Information: 8am Registration. Rules talk at 8:45, and Competition 9-12. All participants & coaches who want to belay are required to take and pass Ubergrippen’s belay test. Belayers and lead climbers are encouraged to come in prior to the competition to take the belay test – getting certified can even be done at ÜG Denver. There is no cost for getting certified early. Availability of belay tests on the day of the competition are not guaranteed, and will cost $5. Lead tests must be done with a partner. Belayers under 14 years old: MUST take and pass three belay tests on three separate days to become fully belay certified in our facility. Belayers who pass a belay test on the day of the competition will be provisionally passed for the day and allowed to belay their peers with a belay-certified individual providing a backup belay. They will not be fully certified until they pass the rest of their tests. All lead belayers and climbers must fill out this Lead Policy Agreement and arrive with a partner to take your test. Particiants must use an assisted-braking belay device including Petzl GriGri, Edelrid Jul, Mammut Smart, BD Pilot, Trango Vergo or Cinch. Tube style belay devices (ATC) are not allowed at ÜG. Please bring your own devices. They may have some for rent for $4, but if they are all rented and none are available the day of the competition.

Additional Information: For our Regional competition on February 7th, Gripstone will NOT be honoring other gym’s certifications. If a competitor wants to Toprope belay, Lead climb or Lead belay, they will need to come take Gripstone’s test PRIOR to the competition. They will not be administering any tests the day of the comp. Additionally, they will not be charging a day pass if they are just wanting to test out. If they plan to climb after their test, they will need to purchase a day pass. Competitors can stop by anytime during our open hours to do so.
