- The ASCL will follow the rules established by the IFSC and USA ParaClimbing for climbers diagnosed as Legally Blind.
- A legally blind Climber may have a Caller.
- The “Climber” is the individual competing in the ASCL competition.
- The “Caller” is the person on the ground providing information regarding the specific route.
- The eligible Climber must inform the Regional, State or National Director prior to the start of the competition of their status.
- The Climber and their Caller will be allowed to wear headsets for communication purposes during the competition. This may refer to a dedicated headset, or simply a cell phone with earbuds.
- The Climber may choose anyone as their Caller.
- The Caller may not be a witness to the Climber.
- The Caller may only provide information regarding “where” on-route hand and foot holds are in relation to the Climber.
a. The Caller may provide information about holds/volumes (e.g., chalk marks, bolt holes, orientation, hold type, etc.) to help the Climber “see” where to go.
b. The Caller may provide specific information as to what holds are on/off. For example, “right foot no.”
c. The Caller may provide specific information as to distances of holds. For example, “Near right ankle, knee or hip.” Or use a code such as “1,2, 3 or kick out”.
d. The Caller may tell the Climber where the rests are on a route.
e. The Caller may provide navigational guidance to help the Climber know where the route is going next on the wall.
- The Caller may not provide beta for the Climber.
